9.1. Troubleshooting the Server

This section explains how to debug any issues you may be having with your icecast server. If you are starting up the icecast1 server, and it fails to initiate, check your configuration files first. There may be an extra line or space somewhere that is causing the server to fail. If you are having problems logging in with your streamer, you may have encrypted your password incorrectly, or forgotten the correct password. Check the log files in /usr/local/icecast/logs. This should show you what errors are happening.

If you are having problems starting the icecast2 server, verify that it is even running by doing a ps command. Next, check your error logs. You can specify the level of debugging you want in your icecast.xml file. Set this to 4 (which is also the default) to make sure that any and all miscellaneous errors get logged.

If that still does not help, check the archives of the icecast mailing list. If you cannot find a similar occurrence there, report the mishap to the list and perhaps someone has already seen or experienced the same issue you are having.

If you experience difficulties, do not hesitate to send mail to the icecast mailing lists. You can also visit our irc channel at irc.xiph.org #icecast and #vorbis.
