This section explains how to monitor and log listeners over an extended period of time. The easiest way to accomplish this is to use a simple web parsing utility, such as those used for displaying the number of hits and/or visits to a web page. In order to view gathered data a simple web server is normally brought into play. This chapter explains how to set up and configure the most commonly used web server on Linux platforms, i.e. Apache. Once a web server is installed the log parsing program can be configured.
The two most commonly used utilities are Analog and Webalizer. The former will be examined in closer detail here.
